Seven young people, aged between 12 and 17, were hurt in a shooting that happened late on Saturday night in downtown Indianapolis.
The incident occurred near a shopping mall where a big group had gathered, as confirmed by authorities.
Police officers were patrolling the area when they heard gunshots near the Circle Centre Mall just after 11:30 p.m. They rushed to the scene and found six minors with gunshot wounds. Later, a seventh victim arrived at the hospital.
Thankfully, all the injured minors are now in stable condition, including one who was initially in critical condition but has improved.
However, the perpetrators of the shooting are still at large. Investigators are working hard to find any leads or information that might help solve the case. Police believe that more than one firearm was used in the shooting.
This unfortunate incident adds to the growing concern about youth involvement in gun violence. Deputy Chief Tanya Terry stressed the importance of parents being aware of their children’s activities, especially during late hours.
Despite the increased police presence in the area, this shooting marks the third violent weekend in March in Indianapolis. Previous incidents on March 16 and March 24 were also mentioned, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.
Chief Chris Bailey echoed Terry’s concerns and emphasized the need for parental involvement in preventing such tragedies.
The community is urged to come forward with any information that could assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing similar incidents in the future.
