Jessica Littleboy, a 24-year-old air stewardess, was caught driving at 53mph in a 30mph zone in her expensive Range Rover.
Working for Jet2, a budget airline, she recently earned her ‘wings’. Before the speeding incident, she had already received six points on her license for using her phone while driving in 2021. This put her at risk of an immediate ban because accumulating 12 points would lead to disqualification.
During her court appearance, Littleboy broke down in tears, explaining that losing her driving privileges would jeopardize her job. She relied on her car to commute from her home in Merseyside to Manchester Airport for early-morning flights. The speeding incident occurred on November 26 last year in Bootle, Merseyside, and was captured by a speed camera.
Her defense lawyer argued that she was unfamiliar with the car she was driving that day and highlighted the potential damage to her career. Despite facing a possible ban, Littleboy’s driving privileges were temporarily suspended after she pledged to appeal.
In court, Littleboy expressed concerns about the lack of public transport available for her early-morning shifts. The magistrates suggested alternative transportation options such as taking a cab or relying on her father, who runs his own company. Littleboy’s father would face difficulties accommodating her transportation needs if she were banned from driving.
The luxury Range Rover she was driving, worth £90,000, could accelerate from zero to 60mph in 5.4 seconds. Littleboy was fined £276 with £230 in costs, and the chairman of the bench wished her well in her job.
