Construction Accident in Downtown Fort Lauderdale Leaves One Dead and Two Hospitalized

A accident occurred in downtown Fort Lauderdale during the construction of a high-rise building. While crews were working on “stepping the crane” to increase its height, a section of the crane came loose. Sadly, a construction worker fell with this section, resulting in fatal injuries.

The falling crane section also caused damage to a nearby bridge, affecting at least two vehicles passing below. Thankfully, emergency responders swiftly transported a man and a woman to a nearby hospital, where they are currently in stable condition. Another individual received treatment at the scene and declined further hospitalization.

Due to the damage caused by the falling crane, authorities have closed the roadway indefinitely for repairs. Additionally, the river beneath the bridge has been closed to marine traffic for safety reasons. Inquiries are currently in progress to ascertain the cause of this unfortunate incident.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue are leading the investigation to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families as they navigate through this challenging period.
